About Kathryn.
I have been married to my best friend, Jared for 7 years. He is mentioned a lot and especially in the more intense projects. He is so handy with power tools so it's great to have him around. We have two boys. Our oldest has autism which has opened our eyes to the many needs and changes in our home. Being a mom to two wild boys has made me rethink how to decorate and design my home. The House of Paint projects are completely created with little kids in mind. They are the center of my design. We have a pretty small home and you will notice many space saving and organizing projects. Besides blogging and creating, I love to swim (I am a swim coach), take pictures, play the guitar, go to disneyland, and hang out with my kids.
About House of Paint.
I used to beg my dad to let me paint my walls. Every room in our home was white and he liked it that way. "Paint is messy", he would say. I found myself collaging magazine covers through out my entire room and when I got bored with that, I would take them down and create poster letters that would spell out my name or a quote that I found inspiring. One day, out of ignorance and excitement, I decided if my dad wouldn't let me paint my walls, I would color my walls with crayons. I drew a sunset out of crayons on an entire wall. It was a beautiful mural, at least I thought so. I remember my parents walking into my room and swallowing down all of the frustration, and shock to say, "That is very creative Kathryn."
My parents began to embrace my creativity and give me outlets to express that (no doubt so I didn't color another wall with crayons or worse) and as I got married and began decorating my own home, I started to blog and photograph my projects for others to see. They are not perfect. I am not precise. They are simple but beautiful. I love minimal design with a vintage twist and I have tried to reflect that in all of the rooms of my home.
The Dragons Fairy Tail to House of Paint
House of Paint was formerly called The Dragons Fairy Tail. I chose the name because it was creative and different and seemed very magical. I still love the name but I felt that it was time to make my business or blog title a little more relevant to the kinds of projects I do and create.
